Sweet Sleeping Sunday
It has taken a long time and a lot of work (longer than it has with any of the others) but Mummy finally believes that she can consider me a tame guinea piggy. Do you want to know why?
This morning she came downstairs and found me asleep, fully and deeply, out in the open like this:
If I wasn’t comfortable and felt safe, I wouldn’t do it! Whee guinea pigs normally keep our eyes open all the time, even when sleeping. Very few of us sleep with our eyes fully closed even when whee are comfortable. Of Mummy’s previous piggies, one was furry nervous and would never do it. But another was furry tame and still wouldn’t do it. It depends on the piggies.
Mummy sat by my cage and watched me for a bit till I got irritated and opened my eyes to see what she wanted.
She said good morning and I huffed and snuggled down to go back to sleep. Those hoomans just love me! How can your hoomans or other hoomans tell that you are feeling relaxed and safe?

Aw, Noah….Motor Mommy and I are learning all sorts of things about piggies that we didn’t know: we didn’t know they sometimes sleep with their eyes open!
We just think it’s wonderful that you’re so happy and content in your new home. And we hope your hooman is feeling better.

How interesting, Noah. That means if you would feel not safe, you would not sleep or relax?
If I didn’t feel safe I’d probably hide somewhere to sleep and sleep with my eyes open so that predators would think I was awake. I’d also only sleep for short periods of time and be on high alert.

Awwww, you’ve really spread out there with your witttle wegs laid out behind you. Like a little steeping beauty, hehe Interesting that you sleep with your eyes cpen, how does one knew when you’re asleep or awake?
Usually when whee are asleep whee stretch out our legs behind us and are furry still!

Awwwwww…yes, both back feet stretched out isn’t always how proud piggies want to be found, but it’s adorable. 😉
Annie is the funniest little pig, she came tame, she loves me to bits, and whenever I start talking over by the cages she will stop whatever she’s doing and start rumble-strut purring around and begging for pets and scratches.
Frederick is the #1 snuggle bug, all the boys are snuggly, but he’ll fall asleep.
Sophie has never forgiven me for *disappearing* all her brothers back to my house the day before I took her and Annie (I figured the less screaming for mama the better; everyone lived and all the boys are gloriously happy). She doesn’t come looking for attention, but will reluctantly pretend she is “allowing” me to pet her. She is gloriously cuddly, as long as I hold her with Annie, and the two if them will kiss me to death when I hold them together. Hopefully eventually she’ll figure things out.
Mummy says Nutty came tame. He ran up the sleeve of her jumper to snuggle with her on the first day with us and never looked back!

I miss Mr. Nutty. He was a very nice pig. Humans are questionable, but I think the food lady is kinda okay. You are a cute boy, but I heard you are noisy like my brother used to be. Please tell Mr. Nacho we hope his foot feels better soon.

Well…they’ll never lose you…
Kaci is getting less scared. She’s been with us a year but still shows signs of trauma from being on death row in a kill shelter with a pen full of big dogs.
It can be furry tough for furries that have been through traumatic experiences

That is beautiful, sweet sleeping, Noah! Mom knows I’m really asleep if she can lift up one of my legs and it flops right back down and I barely open one eye.

That is so cute. I had a similar experience this morning. I saw Peter, my rat, in his cage and he looked cute. I was thinking about getting my camera, but as I approached the cage, Peter jumped down from his hammock and approached the door. Sigh. I can’t get good photos of Peter anymore unless he’s asleep because he’s always bounding to the door to say hi.

We sure keep learning new things when we visit here. We had no idea piggies sleep with their eyes open. How would anybody even know when you are sleeping? And doesn’t the light bother your eyes? Do you blink when you are asleep? We would think that your eyes would dry out if you keep them open all the time.
