Silly Situation Saturday

Whee have a bit of a silly situation here . . . If you follow us on twitter you might have seen it already but whee had a card through the door when the hoomans got home. It was from the Royal Mail, telling us they had tried to deliver a package but whee weren’t in. Well whee were but our paws wouldn’t reach the door handle.

The package is addressed to a Nacho Williamson and though whee are pretty sure whee know who it is from whee now have the silly part. The note would like us to bring proof of Nacho’s identity in the form of . . . a passport, drivers license, credit or debit card etc.

How does someone tell a postie-man that the package is for a guinea pig, and more to the point how does one prove it?! Maybe Nacho needs some id? As his guardian it is my duty to find him some:

cavy rocks coffeecia nacho

Do you have any id cards? How do you think this is going to go down in the post office? Well efurryone else think Mummy is bonkers already so what does she has to lose?!

Happy Saturday

Can’t Be Comfy

Mummy has a habit of saying this. She frowns and looks us up and down. Then she shakes her head. “You can’t be comfy like that!”

Well I have news for you Mummy! I am comfy like that! In the first pigture below I was cuddling the hooman when a loud noise startled me and I jumped. Turned out it was Mummy’s Mum encountering a spider! Then I was looking at the door really suspiciously in case anymore noisy hoomans were coming. The other two pigtures were when Nutty had just taken his meds and Mummy said I could join him but I got lazy half way!

Do you have a funny position that you find comfy but looks weird?

Have a great Friday efurryone

Green Thumb Thursday – Some Successes

Well, Mummy was slightly offended after my last garden post explaining her many foliage failings. So this time I have some pigtures of the things that do look nice in the garden. Admittedly it is her Mum growing a lot of them but I have to be fair! Here are our sunny successes!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Like our furfriend Sammy the cat whee had lots of butterflies in our garden till Mummy wanted to get pigtures of them so whee only managed one moth-y thing!

How does you garden look? Any furry had any progress? Any vegetables ready for munching?

Happy Thursday

Tasty Treat Tuesday (Burgess Excel Square Snack Review)

Firstly whee were not sent these or given anything for this review. Mummy just picked up some treats she thought whee might like and they went down so well she said whee can post about them!

The Treat – Burgess Excel Carrot and Banana Square Snacks

The Treats . .

The Treats . .

The Packaging – A brown and yellow box with clear front panel to show the treats. Looks interesting and caught the hoomans eye.

The Boring Hoomans Bit – Made up of hay, carrots, beetroot and banana. Nothing to worry about unlike many treats which are marketed at guinea pigs.

The boring cavy slave reading bit

The boring cavy slave reading bit

How Much? – These cost Mummy £2.50 in a local pet shop though whee suspect prices vary in different places.

The Look – A small unsurprisingly square snack. Not sure if it had anything to do with the little hooman dropping the packet on the way home but quite crumbly and very few whole pieces. Looks like hay and dried herbs compressed together.

The Smell – No real smell. A vague smell of hay but nothing to overpowering or awful.

The Taste Test – After a suspicious sniff whee all tried one. Whee all really enjoyed them and wanted more!

Final Verdict – These are great little treats for us piggies. However, they are quite delicate. When whee munched them they broke into little pieces and when whee came to the bars to beg for more, Mummy noticed a small pile of bits and crumbs from it. So they were pretty messy.

Whee give this 4/5. If the treats held together better and were less messy whee would say these were perfect!

What’s your favourite treat?

Happy Tuesday

Monday Musings

Hello Monday our old furfriend. Why did you have to come back again?!

Well this Monday whee want to tell you about some furry interesting things involving us piggies and the art world!

With our pretty furs and general cuteness, is it any wonder guinea pigs have been the muses of artists for many years.

Have you ever seen the first ever recorded painting of a guinea pig? How old do you think it is? 50 years old? 100 years old? Try 16th Century, around 433 years ago!

Prized pet: The painting is called 'Three Unknown Elizabethan children' and may contain the first portrait of a guinea pig

From Daily Mail Website

“The portrait, believed to have been painted around 1580 by an unknown artist, shows three young children holding the animal which had recently been introduced into Europe from South America by Spanish merchants.”

The little known painting of three Elizabethan children is believed to be the first portrait of a guinea pig as a pet! The little hoomans are disappointed that theirs are 433 years too late! It has been uncovered by the National Portrait Gallery in London, during the making of its exhibition Elizabeth I and Her People.

No one knows who the children are, but whee are more concerned about who this clear VIP (Very Impawtent Piggy) is! With it’s beige, brown and white fur and regal bearing whee wonder, could it be the first piggy ever brought to England as a gift for Elizabeth I as a child?!

After she received one, they became popular exotic pets with children here and would be brought back as gifts when travelling. They were believed to be bred as curiosity pets, exotics if you will. Whee are still classed as exotic pets today when whee want to visit the vet so times haven’t changed all that much!

However that is not the only piggy portrait whee know of. The below Flemish painting, dated 1615 shows a pair of domesticated guinea pigs. (look just in front of the horse!) The painting by Jan Brueghel the Elder and is part of the Stapleton Collection/Corbis.

A detail from a 1615 Flemish painting shows a pair of domesticated guinea pigs.

Found on the National Geographic Website

A slightly later portrait of a girl with a guinea pig from 1677 by Caspar Netscher  is part of the Royal Collection.

Though science can estimate times and historians can guess at dates, no one knows for sure the dates whee arrived on these shores.

One thing is for sure though; when this exhibition is open (10 October 2013 – 5 January 2014) Mummy will head over there to have a look for herself!

Happy Monday

Sunset Sunday

IMG_4761

I had quite a busy day on Saturday. Our ladypig furfriends let their hoomans out to come and visit us. For most of them, it was their first time meeting me!

I was extra cute and cuddly and did my special squeak for them.

As Mummy said, I ‘charmed-the-pants-off-of-them’ whatever that means!!

I liked having lots of cuddles and all the hoomans going “Awwwwwwww”

Yes, a good days work. Just look at how pretty the sky looked in the evening. It had been a horrible day as far as weather went so this really cheered us all up!

Have a great one, efuryone.

Seriously Weird Searches Saturday . . .

IMG_5109

What on Earth are there crazy hoomans saying this time?!

Well Mummy was having a little look at her stats to see what people are searching for that brings them here.

The great part is, the majority are searching the blog name and finding us. Other searches include “help, my guinea pig has heat stroke” “my guinea pig is sick, what should i do” “guinea pig first aid kit” “homemade guinea pig toys” “what to give bored guinea pigs” and “try to stay mad at these adorable faces”

All very cute and normal, but then there are some strange one’s that made Mummy pull faces and wonder how on Earth they ended up here!

A few of our favourites include:

if men had tails like dogs do name something that would cause them to wag  –  But hoomans don’t has tails . . . I suppose they would wag if they saw a cute piggy though.

Green Thumbs Thursday!

IMG_5071As Mummy has just pointed out whee does not has thumbs to be green but that is beside the point. Today in the garden whee noticed something. Mummy is a truly terrible gardener but somehow some things in our garden have survived. Here is out garden so far.

Whee started with three tomato plants, one basil plant, one curled parsley plant and one cucumber plant.

The cucumber was nicknamed the unlucky cucumber as it was repeatedly dropped and Mummy believed it was DOA (dead on arrival). Within days it had vanished. It’s vanishing was blamed on notorious criminal slugs and snails reported to be operating in the area, however, imagine efurryones surprise when whee found a weak looking little stalk today:

IMG_5117

The basil plant was rather more unlucky and died pretty quickly when Mummy forgot to water in during the hot days. There is nothing left to pigture!

The curled parsley plant might have been over nommed and under watered because it doesn’t really look too well!

IMG_5118

Finally the good news! One set of plants are doing well! Whee will be having tomatoes furry furry soon!

Also, Mummy’s apple tree which has done nothing for two years has suddenly decided to give her a baby apple this year! Hooray!

IMG_5120

Does you have a garden? How’s your garden doing? Is your hooman a horticulture disaster or green fingered fabulous?

Happy Thursday
