Victory!
Those of you who have been with us awhile may remember that last year, while on holiday, Mummy encountered something at a zoo which made her blood boil. She proceeded to make her feelings known and brought it up on here. The zoo was keeping rabbits and guinea pigs together, a recipe for disaster according to most knowledgeable vets, owners and those concerned with welfare.
So as the start of our campaign to get them to change whee emailed and shared what information whee could on here. Our first post dealt with Banham Zoo who had gained Mummy’s attention on the visit. Despite our best efforts, they insisted they were right and the local papers were not interested in helping us. Our next was a follow up with a comment from the RSPCA on why this was not a good idea.
Still Mummy did not get the answer she wanted from the zoo and everything went quiet. But following messages from local readers Mummy was tipped off and told to visit. What she saw meant she has not stopped grinning ever since.
The guinea pigs and rabbits are now in separate enclosures at Banham Zoo. Whee are absolutely thrilled that they have listened and taken steps to protect the animals in their care as recommended.
The animals all looked happier and healthier and the guinea pigs were out running around for pigtures instead of cowering under hutches as they had on the previous visit. Three of them are pigtured, left, as they popcorned and made a piggy train round their enclosure when they heard a keeper arrive with their veggies!
It’s times like these whee can all share the sense of achievement in knowing that through our online ramblings whee made a real difference to the lives of animals.
A small step for that zoo, a massive leap for piggy kind!
What have you done today to make you feel proud? ^_^
