Saturday Stay Bowl Review

So you may or may not know but Buddy has a very naughty habit of tipping the food bowl over and throwing it all over the cage. Not only is this messy and means the cages needs cleaning out more reguarly but also, Basil doesn’t like eating food that has been on the floor so he has been going hungry.

I have searched and search for a solution and I have found it in the Stay Bowl! Initially it sounded like a bit of a gimmick. A bowl that is tip proof? Sure…

But for $9.95 (which roughly £6.80) where was the harm in giving it a try?

So it didn’t take too long and arrived with a lovely note.

The size was good. A lot of people tend to over feed their piggies but these bowls allow for good portion control. So I filled it up, put it in and kept my fingers crossed!

Buddy had a good go a trying to bite the edges and tip it over. At one point a worried Basil stepped on it to keep it in place!

But true to it’s promise the stay bowl, stayed upright!

So what are my thoughts?

Price: Great, pretty much the same price a good quality normal bowl

Appearance: The blue was great and matches their cage. It actually holds more than it looks and can contain the perfect portion size.

Thoughts: It actually works! It’s been four days since we started using the stay bowl and so far no spills or messes made!

Rating: 10 paws up out of 10!

Buddy disagrees and wants to give it a much lower rating…

I guess he’s going to have to find another naughty habit to wind us all up!

Have you got a product that you love that solved a problem for you? Any products you’d recommend for piggies?

Have a great Saturday

Pushy Piggy!

So yesterday the hooman asked you to take guesses at what I had been up to the previous evening that was so naughty. Plenty of you had brilliant ideas but no one guessed exactly the mischeif fun I had.

Now I don’t know about you but sometimes I like to pretend to be a hooman. So that night instead of cuddling in my usual spot on Mummy’s lap, I climbed off onto the sofa next to her. She said I was looking extra cute as I snuffled around the cushions. I lay down and stretched myself out to my full length as I’d seen the hooman do before when she wanted to claim a sofa as her own.

Then I realised I was at a slight height disadvantage! So I gently “encouraged” Mummy to get up.

“Now that’s not quite how it happened Basil-“

She was quite happy to move onto the floor and make way for me after a few gentle nudges…

“I think you’ll find I wasn’t that happy about-“

She got up and sat on the comfy floor. The other hoomans were quite accepting of my human dominance also.

“Well with you rumbling, biting my clothes and trying to dig your nose under me and flick up, I didn’t really have much choice! Plus you tried to nip anyone who wanted to sit down on the sofa near you, even though there was plenty of room!”

I don’t know what you are talking about hooman, I was furry comfortable!

Does anyone else like to pretend to be something else once in awhile? What are you up to today?

Happy Thursday!

Do Squirrels Squeak And Other Questions From The Garden!

As you may or may not know whee have a whole host of visiting wildlife to our garden. With the arrival of Winter a certain few furry friends have been visiting more and more frequently and destroying out birdfeeders. With each visit Mummy has been capturing more and more shots of them playing and exploring.

Yes, whee are talking about our three resident squirrels!

Something funny whee have noticed is they make funny little chattering noises like clicking their tongues and saying “cha” a lot! Whee tried squeaking at them and they seemed to listen but whee don’t know if they can squeak back.

Now whee have a few questions for you furfriends. Firstly, can squirrels squeak? Whee really want to know!

Secondly, how can whee convince the squirrels to stop trying to smash the bird feeders?

And finally whee need three names for them. Do you have any ideas? One is a little chubby and always eating. Another has a raggedy ear and the other one is just very average and squirrel like! ^_^

Have a great day efurryone!

Can My Piggy Eat Pumpkin?

Noah

It’s the spookiest time of the year. When witches and ghosties stalk the streets and the things that go bump in the night come out to play! It’s also the time of year when whee bring those pumpkins into our homes and create fun and scary jack o’laterns!

Following on from our guide to apples for piggies whee are going to answer the question: “Can guinea pigs eat pumpkin?”

As with all things; whee know hoomans love getting the whole family involved in the festivities of Hallo-wheek. Whether this is through dressing up, telling spooky stories to one another or sharing terrifying treats; pets can get involved!

The simple answer is yes, whee can eat pumpkin! But there are a few things you should know first.

4 Things you should know before giving your piggy pumpkin:

– Whee can eat the pumpkin rind/skin or flesh and also the stringy pulp inside the pumpkin though whee would recommend you remove that too before giving it to us.

– You should avoid giving us the leaves as they are high in calcium and the seeds are a definite no-no too with high chances of them getting stuck in our teeth or throat.

– Pumpkins are high in vitamins A and C, and fibre. Both vitamins are very important to help us maintain good health. Vitamin C helps us process proteins and fight infections. Vitamin A is vital for us to have a healthy immune system. As whee cannot produce these vitamins ourselves, whee must get them from the foods that whee can eat, like pumpkin.

– Whee should only eat pumpkin once or twice a week. It’s a treat that may not be to efurrypigs taste but provide good variation to our diet.

To keep things interesting you could skewer cubes of pumpkin on a willow twig or apple stick (both of which you can find in most good pet shops) and give it to us like that. Whee will have great fun throwing it around or playing tug of war with it!

Or if you are feeling creative you could make a pumpkin garland. Mummy is planning on making us one with cubes of pumpkin and apple alternately on a piece of string and tied across our cage. If you place it a little higher than normal this will cause us to climb or stretch a bit and work for our treats which makes them not quite so naughty!

Remember, even though whee can take part in the pumpkin eating and eating the “apple-bobbing” apples whee should NEVER be fed sweets or chocolate.

Happy Hallo-Wheek efurrybody!

Monday Moan-Day

It’s raining again here today and whee are not impressed. This time of year when the trees are changing colour and the leaves are falling is our hoomans favourite season. Usually whee like going out and having a bit of a play, enjoying the slightly chilly air and the sunshine while she takes pigtures of us and the garden. But this year, rain has stopped us repeatedly!

So instead whee are staying in the house and debating hibernating till the sun returns!

I’m going to sleep all day today, at least until the hooman gets home and whee can snuggle up on the sofa together and watching TV with them!

Sweet dreams efurryone and Happy Monday, lets get through this together!

(Not Really) Wordless Wednesday – Time Flies

Time does fly when you don’t have a camera to capture all the funny things whee piggies get up to. Already Mummy has missed capturing Basil destroying some carpet(He denies it of course), Noah getting his head stuck in a cardboard tube (Also denies this took place), Buddy refusing to get back in the cage and running around like a wild thing before bed (Buddy admits a Diva strop but no more than that!) and . . . me? Well using a friend’s camera she did capture one pigture of my gorgeous self snuggling my little hooman.

Hopefully the new camera is going to be chosen soon and whee will have lots of exciting pigtures to show you again! Happy Wednesday efurryone

I Solemnly Swear I am Up To No Good

If you haven’t heard the quote at the title it’s from Harry Potter. If you haven’t heard of Harry Potter have you been living under a rock?! The quote is a phrase you have to say to get a magical map to show up and when you want it to vanish a change back into normal paper you say “Mischief Managed”

According to the hooman I have managed quite a lot of mischief lately. So today is Friday and I can tell you that this wheekend, I solemnly swear, I shall be up to no good!

What’s the naughtiest thing you have ever done or tried to do?

Yule Get Used To It!

Mummy kept saying it but I wasn’t so sure. “Yule get used to the tree.” she insisted. I didn’t believe her but here I am, accepting the fact; Mister Tinsel Twist isn’t going anywhere.

Mummy and me have agreed that he will be leaving soon after Pigmas. No furry likes a guest that over stays their welcome! Buddy has been trying to pull that tree down whenever he gets the chance but the rest of us have made peace with him. Mummy says Pigmas is about coming together and forgiving and forgetting. So I am forgiving the tree for being here and forgetting the fact that Mummy didn’t ask permission! (As the boss pig of the house I am furry impawtent and all decisions should go through me)

*sigh* I'm so forgiving

*sigh* I’m so forgiving

What are you forgiving and forgetting for Pigmas? Another furry impawtent thing at Pigmas is giving. Whee sent off our Secret Santa Paws presents to our assigned rescue piggies and saw on facebook pigtures of them enjoying the gifts. Our two piggies have had a furry unfortunate time before they came into the rescue and one has long term health issues. It made our tummies all warm and fuzzy to know whee helped them and whee all smiled a lot. Giving is the best feeling.

Have a super Sunday efurryone

So Cute It’s Crazy!

Psst. Blogosphere, I have cute little surprise but don’t breathe a word of it to Nacho just yet . . .

IMG_0776

Unbelievably, some people have called this little fella ‘ugly’. I think he is some sort of cross breed. He has three large rosettes in his fur which form a tutu style ruff round his middle, and a little ridge or poof of fur just behind his ears. The little hoomans compare his markings to looking like an angel fish. Do you agree?

I think he is adorable! Let’s hope Nacho agrees!

ps. There’s still time to enter the Don’t Parsley Me By Pigture Contest, check back here.

pps. As with all bonding there is a chance things might not work out between Nacho and Noah. Whee will let you know as soon as whee know how things went.

Don’t Parsley Me By! (A Pigture Contest)

Hiya efurryone. Firstly you haven’t heard from us two for awhile but here whee are enjoying parsley in the garden today:

This leads neatly onto our new contest. Don’t Parsley Me By. Mummy has decided she needs something as a distraction for her and what better way to keep her busy than with a pigture contest!

Whee would like you to all send us your pigtures of your rescue pets. Whether you adopted them from an official rescue (or shelter), took them from a bad home or situation or saved them from a terrible fate. Whee would like you to send their pigtures with a line about what they came from. The pigture can be of them looking pleading or really enjoying their new homes. (Sorry for anyfurry who doesn’t have a rescue pet, whee will have other pigture contests soon) If you don’t have a rescue pet you can send us a pigture of your pet campaigning for animals in rescues (be as inventive as you like!)

This was inspired by Mummy hearing a song that made her think of rescue pets. The song is called Lonely No More by Clay Aiken. What whee would like to do is, collect as many as whee can and put them into a video to this song to raise awareness of animals in need.

You can send your pigtures to us at roominyourheartcampaign@yahoo.co.uk or tweet them to us @HutchAGoodLife (afraid whee aren’t too savvy with other social networks just yet so just these this time!) Please use the subject title “Don’t Parsley Me By Contest” for email entries and mention the contest in tweets.

The closing date is Thursday 12th September at 1pm (GMT aka UK time) Please spread the word, whee want to get as many hoomans and furries involved as possible. If you have more than one rescue pet you can enter a maximum of three pigtures (all must be of different pets).

Depending on how many entries, whee hope to be able to include efurryone! The pigture that is the overall winner will be the opening pigture for the video and the runner up will be the closing pigture.

So hoomans get snapping and pets get posing.

Whee can’t wait to see your entries! Happy Friday
