Whee have got an award! Can you believe it?! Whee just realised that Mummy has forgotten to post all our awards recently. (Bad Mummy!) So if whee haven’t claimed an award please comment and whee will get Mummy to sort it out.
For now here is the award, given to us by the wonderful Miss Misaki:
Isn’t it pretty?! Whee don’t normally like fireworks (or as whee call them ‘whoosh-bangs’) but these ones are quiet and pretty so whee don’t mind them! Whee like to think of everyone who follows us on here as our Team. (Go Team Bloggy Friends!) Or even as our family. An extended family who share our joy and laughter and sadness and anger and stay with us every step of the way. Now before whee get too mushy and emotional here are the rules.
1. The Nominee of the Wonderful Team member Readership Award shall display the logo on his/her post/page and/or sidebar
2. The Nominee shall nominate 14 readers they appreciate over a period of 7 days (1 week) – this can be done at any rate during the week. It can be ALL on one day or a few on one day and a few on another day, etc.
Misaki has stolen some of the furries whee wanted to nominate so if you aren’t on our list but are on hers you will know that whee love you too! Let’s go for it all in one go, deep breath. Whee nominate:
Come Wag Along (Formly King Simba!)
Goodness! Despite claiming all of Misaki’s and making a list of our own whee still haven’t included efurryone. It is great being part of such a big family but, boy, does it get hard to choose blogs for these awards. It’s like trying to pick your favourite child!
3. The Nominee shall name his or her Wonderful Team Member Readership Award nominees on a post or on posts during the 7 day (1 week) period.
Look up there ^ whee did it. Aren’t whee the clever cavies!
4. The Nominee shall make these rules, or amended rules keeping to the spirit of the Wonderful Team Member Readership Award, known to each reader s/he nominates.
Well whee have posted them here so I don’t think it gets clearer than that.
5. The Nominee must finish this sentence and post: ”A Great reader is…”
A great reader is someone who stays with you through the ups and down and feels everything you do. Someone who loves without thought, and cares without logic for someone/somefurry they have never met but seem to know so well. Someone like our bloggy family here.
Now here is a super cheesy song whee think is appropriate. If you cannot stand happy, cheery teenagers whatever the time where you are then don’t click!
Whee don’t say it enough but whee do appreciate you all very much.
Nibbles, Nutty, Buddy & Basil
A Cavy went to sea sea sea,
To see what he could see see see,
But all that he could see see see,
Was how far from his veggies was he he he!!!
Whee also thought about what our names would be if whee were pirates.
Whee decided on;
– Captain Nibbles-Long-Whiskers,
– Ship Mate Nutty-No-Nonsense,
– Rigging Pigging Buddy-Bounce-Back
– And Cabin Boy Basil-Be-Quiet!
What would your pirate names be?
Well whee will leave you with a video about a pirate piggy! It’s quite short but still funny!
Autumn, or ‘Fall’ as some of you know it is exciting. It heralds the arrival of Bonfire Night, Pigmass, Halloween and New Year all at once. This is Mummy’s favourite time of year. She likes it when it is just cold enough that her breath mists on the air or when it snows. I’ve never seen snow or Autumn before and neither has Buddy so this will be quite an adventure.
Squeaking of adventure . . . Mummy got quite excited a couple of hours ago and told me proudly that she had finished my story. My first adventure in Cavyaira. How I met the others and a bit about my life and family before my great adventure. I’m pretty sure there will be more to come but for now – Basil’s Autumn Adventure Story
So after careful consideration whee have chosen the winning story for Basil’s Bedtime Story Competition. Our pannel of tough judges included Basil, a 9 year old little hooman and an 11 year old little hooman as well Mummy. There were so many amazing stories. But this one was efurryone’s favourite, not only because it included Basil but also because it incorporated many of our friends across the blogosphere.
Yes, our winner is the wonderful Miss Misaki! The story included Mollie and Alfie, Easy Rider and Doggy! So congratulations to Misaki, here is the promised pigture of you, as drawn by the little hooman and put onto the computer with Mummy’s help. To efurryone else whee hope you enjoy reading and agree with us just how great this story is.

Misaki’s First Adventure
Misaki was walking in the woods when she heard crying. She looked about and saw a small grey and white creature curled up under a bush.
‘Why are you crying?’ Misaki asked softly, not wanting to scare it. The small creature eeeeeked in fear.
‘Don’t worry, I won’t hurt you. Misaki tried to sound reassuring but no doubt she looked like a huge monster to this tiny creature. ‘My name is Misaki, what’s yours?’
‘I-I-I’m B-Basil’ he stuttered, ‘I’m a guinea pig. What are you?’Basil looked up at the large furry creature in front of him and gulped.
‘I’m a dog,’ she replied ‘and I’m looking for a great adventure but I haven’t found one yet.’ She sighed as she spoke.
‘My brothers and I have adventures all the time,’ Basil relaxed as he spoke, ‘we were searching for a mythical vegetable reported to have healing properties when a large bird swooped down and carried me off in her claws! I wriggled and squeaked until she eventually dropped me here. But I don’t even know where I am or how to get home.’
‘I’ll help you! What an adventure it will be! Climb on my back and I’ll carry you.’
Basil pointed out the direction the bird had taken him and Misaki set off enthusiastically.
She ran for most of the morning, stopping a few times at steams and fields, until eventually they came across a lone tower, where they decided to ask for directions. They couldn’t find a door so Misaki howled up towards the single window at the very top.
A blonde furry head soon appeared. ‘Have you come to rescue me?’ She called down to them.
‘Why?’ Misaki asked, ‘who are you?’
‘I’m Princess Mollie and I’m being held for ransom by that evil cat Alfie!’
‘We must help her,’ Basil whispered.
‘But how? There’s no door,’ Misaki scratched her head, she wasn’t sure she could climb all the way to the top of the tower.
‘There’s a cat-flap at the back of the tower if you can squeeze through it,’ Mollie told them, ‘then you can climb up the stairs and unlock my door,’
But the cat-flap was too small for Misaki and Basil had to go in alone. ‘Be careful,’ she called as his furry behind disappeared.
Basil found himself at the bottom of a large winding staircase and began scrambling up, wishing Misaki was there to help him. Out of breath, he finally climbed the last stair where the door to Mollie’s prison stood. Luckily there was a chair by the door and the key hung just a short reach above it. Taking a deep breath he began climbing again, balancing on the top rung of the chair and caught the key in his teeth. But just as he was about to climb down, he lost his balance and the key went clattering to the floor.
‘Oh no!’ he cried.
‘Don’t worry,’ said Princess Mollie, ‘Push the key under the door and I’ll unlock it from this side.’ So down Basil went and began to push the key with his nose until it disappeared under the door.
A few moments later, Princess Mollie appeared, Basil hopped on her back holding tightly to her fur as she bounded down the stairs.
‘Thank you both so much,’ she said when they were back outside. ‘If I can do anything to repay you, just let me know me.’
‘Do you know the way to Cavyaira at all? Basil is trying to get home.’
‘Hmm…’ Mollie said thoughtfully, ‘I’m fairly sure you have to cross the Weimaraner Bridge, which is over that way’.
They said their goodbyes and headed off. It didn’t take long to find the long wooden bridge which crossed the river. At first it seemed to be deserted, but as soon as they got half way across, a dark figure appeared dressed in armour.
‘My name is EasyRider and I guard this bridge. If you want to get across you have to pay a toll.’
‘Can we pay in bonios?’ Misaki suggested hopefully.
‘No,’ Easy said, ‘I don’t like them. Instead you have to do something for me. Doggy, who lives in that house by the edge of the river, beat me in a game of poker and won my Bad Ideas Catalogue. You have to get it back for me.’
‘I guess we’re off to meet Doggy then,’ Basil said.
The house was where Easy said it was and they quickly explained the situation to Doggy.
‘I won it fair and square,’ Doggy said defensively.
‘Perhaps we could play you for it then?’ Basil suggested.
‘I know!’ Misaki cried, ‘let’s have a bonio eating competition! Whoever eats the most wins the book.’
‘OK’, Doggy agreed, ‘I’m always up for a challenge’.
Both Doggy and Misaki tucked into the large piles of bonios placed in front of them, gulping down the delicious biscuits. But soon Doggy slowed down. ‘I give up, I can’t eat anymore! The book is yours.’
Misaki was so busy eating that she hadn’t noticed and carried on until Basil finally told her to stop. ‘Already? But I was just getting started,’ she complained.
After a few more bonios for the journey, they thanked Doggy and returned to Easy where he waited on the bridge.
‘Hooray!’ Easy exclaimed, ‘Thank you so much for getting my book back! You are welcome to cross the bridge’
‘Before we go, do you know how to get to Cavyaira? Misaki asked.
Easy thought for a moment, ‘Yes, you need to use the tunnel running from the largest oak tree in the forest, it will take you straight there!’
They thanked him gratefully and carried over the bridge and into the forest where the large oak tree loomed graciously.
‘I’ll be glad to see my brothers again, but I’m sad our adventure has come to an end,’ remarked Basil.
‘Me too’ agreed Misaki sadly.
They quickly hugged, promising to meet again, before Basil scampered into the hole in the oak tree and headed towards the safety of Cavyaira.
Misaki stood for a moment and then turned in the direction of her home, I wonder if I’ll be back in time for dinner, she wondered.
My name’s Basil and I am a screen addict.
That is to say I am addicted to watching the computer screens, the tv screens and even Mummy’s phone screen.
I see them and it is like they hypnotise me. The colour blurring and bright and . . .
*gazes at screen for a moment then shakes head*
See? It is seriously affecting my ability to concentrate and write a blog post. Mummy says I need to do something about it but even when whee spent four hours in the garden earlier today I was trying to ‘borrow’ Mummy’s phone to look at.
Please help! How do I stop this?
So yet again whee have found ourselves inspired by the creative pigture editting of a particular blogger. Yes, the Hamster Diaries Paw-p Art Post has caught our imaginations!
What would whee look like in four colours whee wondered enviously, looking at the bootiful pigtures of our hammy friends, fit for an art gallery. Well whee didn’t have to wonder for long. Using photobucket Mummy put her limited computermabob intelligence to good use.
Here are the results:
Seeing as Mummy often gets cross with technology, whee are very proud of her making one of each of us. Which one is your favourite? Which of us looks PAW-P-TASTIC?!!!
Nibbles, Nutty, Buddy & Basil
Ps. Just a reminder that you are running out of time to email in your Basil’s Bedtime Story ComPIGtition entries. (if you don’t know what I’m on about skip back a couple of posts!)
I’ve been thinking (a dangerous occupation you should only do with adult supervision!) Efurryone seems so comfortable with who they are and what they do. But I’m not. I cannot serenade and bewitch ladypigs with my smile. I cannot bounce endlessly round the cage with cheeky, happy-go-lucky charm. I cannot behave in a manner that is even vaguely upper class.
Instead I stumble through life. Not really sure of who or what I am. I am Nutty Nutkin AKA Chubby Nut or Nutfluff or Mummy’s Boy. I don’t really have a look or style. But with Mummy’s magic computermabob I CAN become who ever I want to be. Here are some possible images for me. Lots of hats because I am Mad as a hatter as Mummy says! Let me know what you think. Hopefully these looks will be more successful than my ideas for careers!
Firstly, please keep sending your Basil’s Bedtime Story Competition entries in. The ones whee have recieved so far are just brilliant! (If you have no idea what whee are on about just skip back a post!)
Anyway, onto the important news! Today, 12th September, was a very very special day. Why?! I hear you cry. Well because today was my sixth birthday! I’m now an elderly gentlepig!
My birthday presents included a bag of dried alfafa bales which are my favourite. Carrot, kale and cucumber as midday veggies (again my favs!) Some willow twigs and a new water bottle. Pretty good selection of ‘swag’ if I do say so myself.
I have had such a great day. Here is a little poem immortalising six special years with my hoomans!
When I was one,
I had only just begun,
When I was two,
Mischief was all I’d do.
When I was three,
I lost Nugget and found Nutty.
When I was four,
I had not changed much more.
When I was five,
I thought I wanted a wife.
Now that I’m six,
I notice how fast life’s-clock ticks!
So please everyone, celebrate my great birthday with me!
Now you know whee recently had a new arrival, Baby Basil. Like any bubby Basil loves to hear a good story. So whee are launching our latest competition especially for him. Basil Bedtime Story!
Based on the fictional land of Cavyaira featured in Mummy’s story for us.
Whee would like hoomans, piggies and other furries to write a short story about their adventure in Cavyaira (or an ajoining land for doggies and kitties Pawsford!) Whether it’s a night out at The Pig Inn or a mysterious adventure in the mountains whee need bedtime stories for Basil. Adventure, romance, or spooky! Whee aren’t fussy!
The story can be no more than 1000 words and you must include a photo of the pet this adventure is based on.
The winner will have their story featured on the blog as well as illustrations created by our little hooman. If you would like to see what these pigtures/drawings will look like here is the cast of Captured In Cavyaira: (click to make it bigger)
Please send your stories to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line ‘Basil’s Bedtime Story’ and your pet photo attached as a jpeg.
Closing date for entries is Sunday 16th September with an annoucement of the winner to come the following wheek.
Can’t wait to see how creative you all are! 😉
